Welcome to our seventh Anglesey Arts Weeks!

We are celebrating the rich and varied creative talents on Anglesey by holding the Arts Weeks in two parts; Open Studios and Galleries over the Easter two weeks and then, in October, the Performing Arts.

During the Open Studios and Galleries weeks visual artists and open their studios to visitors. You may find anything from cards and prints to buy, to exhibitions and installations of contemporary art to see in studios, chapels, barns, sheds, galleries and artists’ homes; a chance to meet and talk with the artist, often over a cup of tea, and gain a unique glimpse of the artistic process.

An exhibition of at least one piece of work from each participant of the seventh Anglesey Arts Weeks: Open Studios. Artists will be working in the Centre; a large-scale map of Anglesey will show the location of the studios. Invited craftworkers on Anglesey display their work, including cards, clothes, decoupage, embroidery, paintings, toys, glass, jewellery and herbal products, and much more. Ucheldre Exhibition - Brian Crouch, 'The Studio Re-cycled' - 9 January - 7 February 2010

Inspired by Picasso’s Cubist constructions, painter Brian Crouch has struck out in a new direction with a series of assemblages. His 3D wallbased collages are composed of off-cuts from his studio; mixed media, wood, canvas, paper, and paint. Exhibition opening Saturday 9 January at 7pm. All welcome, admission free. OPEN: Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sundays 2pm-5pm.

This exhibition once more brings together artists Richard Houghton, Femke Van Gent, and Tom Simone in conjunction with the service users of Tyddyn Môn. Those involved have been encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and engage in making film, sculpture, performance, and two dimensional work that develops the idea of a personal narrative. Exhibition opening Saturday 9 January at 7pm. All welcome, admission free. OPEN: Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sundays 2pm-5pm.

Veronica and Mike Knowles return to Ucheldre with a fresh body of work. Veronica's subjects are family, garden and animals and, until recently, from choice she has been a rare exhibitor. Mike's paintings are concerned almost entirely with the human figure and landscape, and he has exhibited widely.

New art gallery - Oriel Daniel in Llangefni - November 2009

A new art gallery, Oriel Daniel, is now open in Llangefni. Rhys G Morris is the young entrepreneur running Oriel Daniel which is located at Canolfan Cefni in the town centre of Llangefni. The Gallery was officially opened recently by Councillor Peter Rogers who was very supportive of Rhys during his time at University. Councillor Rogers has known the Morris family, including Rhys’ grandfather, for over 40 years. He said that it was a pleasure to open the Gallery as the building itself had been empty for some time. He was especially pleased to see a young man running the premises, which was in his opinion ‘a prime site on the High Street’, and he was pleased of his success after having worked so hard. He also noted that Rhys will also be offering a professional framing service and this he said, ‘will be his bread and butter’. He continued, ‘this is just the kind of business that is needed here in Llangefni’. He thanked all the friends and supporters for attending and the Gallery was officially opened with best wishes for good luck by all.

They have been meeting for over fifteen years under the guidance of tutor Noelle Griffiths. Launch Anglesey Performing Arts Weeks

Dear All,

Just a reminder that the Anglesey Performing Arts Weeks (APAW) start tomorrow Saturday 17 October 2009. The Weeks will be opened in the Ucheldre Centre at 7.30 pm by the Patron of the Holyhead Arts Festival, Albert Owen MP, just before what promises to be a superb evening of music by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Haydn, and Dvorak performed by 20 musicians of the European Union Chamber Orchestra with soloist pianist Iwan Llewelyn-Jones.

Other events in the Weeks are contained in a PDF of the guide for the event which we can email to you or you can download from the website. Please let us know if you want anything included on the web posting.

A new feature we have just included to replace the previously advertized Short Films Night (no submissions of work) on Wednesday 21 October 2009, is Open Stage Night. If you have always hankered at having a stage to yourself, or want to try out something new, then contact the Ucheldre Centre (01407 763361) to book a slot. So far we have: Aron Davies singing a variety of songs accompanied at the piano by Brook Stewart, who will also perform some solo pieces; Natasha Williams performing some hip hop street dances; and the Ucheldre Repertory Company performing an excerpt from Not Now Darling, a farce currently under rehearsal for performance in February 2010.

Two exhibitions of stunning photographs, one from Phil’s recent book Holy Wells: Wales, a photographic journey; and a new collection of specially commissioned photographs of the Holy Wells of Anglesey. Phil launches the exhibitions with a performance lecture on Tuesday 6 October. Doors open 6pm, Performance Lecture 7pm. Holy Wells: Wales.... on the road,including inspiring stories,myths, and poems on the Holy Wells of Wales.

The fourth Diploma exhibition presents a selection of Fine Art by nine students from the innovative and unique course at the University of Bangor.
