Rhys G Morris yw’r gŵr busnes ifanc sy’n rhedeg yr Oriel sydd wedi’i lleoli yng Nghanolfan Cefni yng nghanol tref Llangefni. Agorwyd yr Oriel yn swyddogol yn ddiweddar gan y Cynghorydd Peter Rogers a fu’n gefnogol iawn i Rhys tra’r oedd yn y Brifysgol. Roedd y Cynghorydd Rogers wedi adnabod y teulu Morris, yn cynnwys taid Rhys, ers dros 40 o flynyddoedd. Nododd ei fod yn bleser dod i agor yr Oriel gan fod yr adeilad ei hun wedi bod yn wag ers amser hir. Roedd yn arbennig o falch fod gŵr ifanc lleol wedi cymryd y siop a oedd yn ei dŷb ef mewn ‘safle gwych ar y Stryd Fawr’, ac roedd yn falch o’i lwyddiant ar ôl iddo weithio mor galed. Nododd hefyd fod Rhys am gynnig gwasanaeth fframio lluniau proffesiynol yn yr Oriel, ‘a byddai hyn,’ meddai ‘ yn fara menyn iddo’. Aeth ymlaen i ddweud mai, ‘Dyma’r math o fusnes maen nhw ei angen yma yn Llangefni’. Diolchodd i’r holl ffrindiau a’r cefnogwyr am ddod yno ac agorwyd yr Oriel yn swyddogol gyda dymuniadau gorau am lwc dda.

Nododd ei fod yn bleser dod i agor yr Oriel gan fod yr adeilad ei hun wedi bod yn wag ers amser hir. Roedd yn arbennig o falch fod gŵr ifanc lleol wedi cymryd y siop a oedd yn ei dŷb ef mewn ‘safle gwych ar y Stryd Fawr’, ac roedd yn falch o’i lwyddiant ar ôl iddo weithio mor galed. Diolchodd i’r holl ffrindiau a’r cefnogwyr am ddod yno ac agorwyd yr Oriel yn swyddogol gyda dymuniadau gorau am lwc dda.

Yn enedigol o Sir Drefaldwyn, mae Rhys G Morris yn awr wedi ymgartrefu yn Sir Fôn. Mae ganddo radd anrhydedd BA mewn Celfyddyd Gain yn ogystal â gradd mewn Astudiaethau Adeiladu. Bu’n gweithio i gwmni datblygu eiddo cyn iddo benderfynu dod yn arlunydd. Bu’n dilyn Cwrs Sylfaen mewn Celf yng Ngholeg Menai lle enillodd deilyngdod yn y cwrs a rhagoriaeth yn ei brosiect terfynol. Wedyn cychwynnodd ar gwrs tair blynedd ym Mhrifysgol Manceinion i ennill gradd mewn Celfyddyd Gain. Graddiodd yn haf 2009 a’i ddyhead mawr oedd sefydlu’i Oriel ei hun. ‘Mae’r Oriel hon,’ meddai, ‘yn oriel deyrnged i’r diweddar Syr Kyffin Williams’. Addas iawn felly yw fod yr Oriel wedi’i lleoli yn nhref enedigol Syr Kyffin Williams yn Llangefni. Mae gweithiau gan William Selwyn R.C.A., Karel Lek M.B.E., R.C.A., a Daisy Wyn Griffith R.C.A. hefyd ar gael. Roedd y tri arlunydd yn bresennol yn yr agoriad. Mae Karel Lek, yr arlunydd adnabyddus o Fiwmares, wedi dylanwadu’n drwm ar waith Rhys dros y blynyddoedd ac mae’n ystyried ei hun fel y ‘fydwraig’ a roddodd enedigaeth i Rhys yr arlunydd.

Mae pedwar darlun o Kyffin Williams gan Karel Lek yn cael eu harddangos yn yr Oriel. Mae un ohonynt yn darlunio y tro cyntaf i Karel Lek gyfarfod â Kyffin yn 1947; mae un arall yn darlunio Kyffin yn ei gartref yn Pwllfanogl y tro olaf i Karel Lek ei weld yn 2006. Hefyd yn yr Oriel mae darlun dyfrlliw gan William Selwyn o gartref Kyffin Williams yn Pwllfanogl.

Yn Eglwys Llanfihangel Esgeifiog y bedyddiwyd rhai aelodau o deulu Rhys Morris ers yr ail ganrif ar bymtheg ac roedd darluniau Daisy Wyn Griffith o Eglwys Llanfihangel Esgeifiog yn hynod berthnasol yn yr Oriel felly. Mae printiadau cyfyngedig o ddarluniau eraill gan Daisy Wyn Griffith, o Eglwys Llanedwen ac Aberffraw ar gael yn yr Oriel am £95.

Yn Eglwys Llanedwen hefyd mae’r Marcwis presennol yn addoli bob Sul. Roedd hen ewythr i Rhys Morris, sef Henry Morris yn gweithio fel bwtler ym Mhlas Newydd ers talwm ar adeg arwisgo’r Tywysog Siarl yn 1969. Dywedodd y Marcwis wrtho un noson y byddai yna westai arbennig i frecwast drannoeth. Y bore wedyn aeth Henry Morris i ystafell wely’r gwestai ac yno y gwelodd y Tywysog Siarl a phan oedd Henry Morris am siarad efo’r Tywysog yn Saesneg, gorchmynnodd y Tywysog iddo siarad yn Gymraeg, ‘Siaradwch yn Gymraeg Henry Morris’. Roedd Henry Morris ei hun yn gyfaill i’r diweddar Syr Kyffin Williams.

Yn yr Oriel gellir prynu lluniau am brisiau rhesymol ac mae gwasanaeth fframio lluniau proffesiynol hefyd ar gael. Gellir prynu rhai printiadau cerdyn wedi’u fframio am £20 yn unig. Ar hyn o bryd mae Rhys wrthi’n portreadu cymeriadau ar y thema, Te yn y Bulkeley, lle mae’n darlunio gwahanol gymeriadau yn mwynhau te a choffi yng ngwesty’r Bulkeley ym Miwmares. Mae Rhys hefyd wedi darlunio nifer o luniau ar gyfer cyfres o lyfrau ar hanes Methodistiaeth ym Môn gan yr Athro D Ben Rees, Lerpwl. Mae’r cyfrolau hyn ar gael yn yr Oriel.

Os am fwy o fanylion am yr Oriel, y nwyddau sydd ar werth yno, neu’r gwasanaeth fframio lluniau proffesiynol, cysylltwch yn uniongyrchol gyda Rhys G Morris ar 01248 750005 neu drwy e-bost: danielstudio6@yahoo.co.uk neu’r wefan: www.danielgallery.co.uk neu galwch yn yr Oriel.

Rhys G Morris is the young entrepreneur running Oriel Daniel which is located at Canolfan Cefni in the town centre of Llangefni. The Gallery was officially opened recently by Councillor Peter Rogers who was very supportive of Rhys during his time at University. Councillor Rogers has known the Morris family, including Rhys’ grandfather, for over 40 years. He said that it was a pleasure to open the Gallery as the building itself had been empty for some time. He was especially pleased to see a young man running the premises, which was in his opinion ‘a prime site on the High Street’, and he was pleased of his success after having worked so hard. He also noted that Rhys will also be offering a professional framing service and this he said, ‘will be his bread and butter’. He continued, ‘this is just the kind of business that is needed here in Llangefni’. He thanked all the friends and supporters for attending and the Gallery was officially opened with best wishes for good luck by all.

He continued, ‘this is just the kind of business that is needed here in Llangefni’. He thanked all the friends and supporters for attending and the Gallery was officially opened with best wishes for good luck by all.

Rhys G Morris is a native of Montogomeryshire but now resides in Anglesey. Rhys has a BA Honours degree in Fine Art as well as a degree in Building Studies. He was employed by a firm of property developers before deciding to become an artist. He followed a Foundation Course in Art at Coleg Menai where he obtained a merit and a distinction in his final project. He then commenced a three year course at Manchester University to gain his BA honours degree in Fine Art and he graduated in summer 2009. It was Rhys’ ambition to establish his own art gallery and according to Rhys, ‘Oriel Daniel is a tribute gallery for the late Sir Kyffin Williams’. It is fitting therefore that Oriel Daniel is located in Sir Kyffin Williams’ home town in Llangefni. Works by William Selwyn R.C.A., Karel Lek M.B.E., R.C.A., and Daisy Wyn Griffith R.C.A. are also available at the Gallery. These three artists were present at the opening. Karel Lek, the well-known artist from Beaumaris, has heavily influenced Rhys’ work over the years and considers himself to be the ‘midwife’ who gave birth to Rhys the artist.

There are four paintings of Kyffin Williams by Karel Lek on display in the Oriel. One of them depicts Kyffin when Karel Lek first met him in 1947 and another is of Kyffin at his home in Pwllfanogl on the last occasion Karel Lek saw him in 2006. Also in the Oriel is a watercolour of Kyffin Williams’ home at Pwllfanogl by William Selwyn.

Members of Rhys Morris’ family have been baptised at the Old Church of Llanfihangel Esgeifiog since the 17th century and it was therefore appropriate that Daisy Wyn Griffith’s paintings of this church should be on display in the gallery. Limited edition prints of other paintings by Daisy Wyn Griffith, of Llanedwen Church and of Aberffraw are on sale at the Oriel for £95.

Llanedwen Church is where the present Marquess of Anglesey worships. Henry Morris, Rhys Morris’ great uncle, worked as a butler at Plas Newydd at the time of the Prince of Wales’ investiture in 1969. One day the Marquess told Henry Morris that an important guest would be present for breakfast the following morning. When Henry Morris entered the guest’s bedroom, he discovered Prince Charles. When Henry Morris spoke to him in English, Prince Charles said, ‘Speak to me in Welsh, Henry Morris.’ Henry Morris was a friend of the late Sir Kyffin Williams.

At Oriel Daniel it is possible to purchase framed card prints for as little as £20 and a professional picture framing service is also available. At present, Rhys is painting characters that he has observed at the Bulkeley Hotel, Beaumaris on the theme Tea at the Bulkeley, depicting characters enjoying tea and coffee at the hotel. Rhys has also painted a number of illustrations for a series of books on the history of Methodism in Anglesey by Professor D Ben Rees, Liverpool. These books can be purchased at Oriel Daniel.

For further details about Oriel Daniel, the goods available or the professional picture framing service, please contact Rhys G Morris on 01248 750005 or by e-mail: danielstudio6@yahoo.co.uk or view the website www.danielgallery.co.uk or call at the Gallery.
